What is tested?
Triglycerides - This is fat in your body that occurs when you eat more calories than you need. High triglycerides may put you at greater risk for a heart attack or stroke.
Cholesterol - A waxy, fat-like substance that’s found in all the cells in your body that your body needs to work properly. However, if you have too much cholesterol in your blood, you have a higher risk of coronary artery disease.
HDL - this stands for high-density lipoproteins and is called good cholesterol because it carries cholesterol from other parts of your body back to your liver.
LDL - This stands for low-density lipoproteins and is called the “bad” cholesterol because a high LDL level leads to a buildup of cholesterol in your arteries.
